Cheyenne ID

I've searched this site, but can't find an answer. This weekend I might be going to look at a '71 Cheyenne. The price seems a little "too good" for this model. I've seen a picture of it, and it appears to be missing the trim along the bottom of it. Which leads me to my question. Does the VIN state if a truck is a Cheyenne? I know it seems a dumb question. I know about the wood grain trim. But I just want to know if there are any tell-tell signs to look for in case the option sticker is missing from the glove box. I want to make sure that this truck is really a Cheyenne. Any help would be appreciated.

see if it has the woodtrim on the inside to ,it could have been taken out but I would be leary if it was not here, and look down the side of the truck to see if the holes for the bottom trim have been filled but if the body work is done right you can't tell that way.

The VIN number won't tell you anything about the trim level.

Things to look for in a Cheyenne.....These were standard items but some items were optional in the lower trim packages.

Headliner and chrome trim
Woodgrain inserts on the door panels.
Chrome trim on the pedals
Deluxe side marker lights
Cargo Light
Cheyenne nameplates
Lower trim and rear tailgate trim with woodgrain.
Stainless gas filler cap.

Excellent...thanks guys.....this is the information I was looking for. don't have any books to tell me. I appreciate your help. I just wanted to make sure that this truck I was going to look at wasn't a CST that some had thrown the Cheynne nameplates on to try to pass it off. Thanks again.

Actually, the CST is the same as the Cheynne.
CST was the top of the line option package from 67 - 70, then in 71 they renamed it the Cheynne. Even the option number is the same...Z84 if memory serves.

Thanks Longhorn....I didn't know the Cheyenne replaced the CST's. I appreciate the help.
I've learned more from this website than any book I've read. You guys are great.

All good information on those posts. Beware of the clones. If the glove box sticker is missing, I personally wouldn't buy it. That's a sure key that someone's hiding something.

Also, although the CST and the Cheyenne can mean the same level of options, the CST was offered in 71. I've seen a bone-stock 71 with Cheyenne on the side and CST on the glove box. No mention of Cheyenne on the options list. Either someone put on Cheyenne badges on a CST, or some were issued with CST on options list and Cheyenne on the side. So ask around if you find that on the sticker; may be legit.

Many said CST in the box...the funny thing is, on some Blazers, (which only came in CST...no Cheyennes) the option sheet may say Cheyenne instead of CST.
As if we weren't confused enough with the moor quality control on the assembly line.
My Longhorn's option sheet, and build sheet both say one style mirror, however, it came off that assembly line with another type of mirror.

Question

I thought the Cheyennes came with the black trim and the super Cheyennes had the wood grain. ?!? Am I wrong?

I have a '71 Cheyenne 20 but it's outer trim was removed long ago. Speedometer bezel is black and no wood grain on glove box.

I believe the "Cheyenne Super" package included woodgrain glove box, dash bezel, and aluminum woodgrain door panel inserts. I thought that all Cheyennes recieved the lower woodgrain trim, but I think that black could be ordered. All Cheyennes have the cargo light also. I had the misfortune to have to tell a customer of mine that the truck that he just purchased for $16,000.00 was a fake Cheyenne once and have seen a couple of them on ebay that weren't real ones either.

wood floor was an option on all fleetsides except the Longhorn.
The longhorn and step sides came only in wood floor.
