Window Crank question
i have an 86,how do i get the window crank handle thing off so i can take the door panel off?

There is a special tool required to remove the handle that you can pick up at any auto parts store called a door handle/window handle removal tool. Line it up under the crank handle and push it towrds the center of the pivot point to dislodge the "OMEGA" shaped retainer spring clip. DO NOT LOOSE THE CLIP!!!!
To replace the handle, reinstall the clip to the back side of the handle (It'll be obvious as to where it goes) so that the open end faces the length of the handle. place handle onto regulator shaft and give it a good solid smack with the palm of your hand. That's right slap it like you wanna slap that ex of your's.

the tool is made by MOTORMITE and is on the red cards in most auto parts stores in the HELP section
you can usually maneuver it off with a screwdriver or two and or a needle nose plier but the tool makes life alot easier

I was pulling some panels yesterday and the guy that had the truck had the tool but says he never uses it.
Heres what he did. Push the panel back far enough to see the "U-clip". Turn the handle so the open side is facing up (you can see the ends of the clip sticking up). Take a rag and an work it down between the handle and the panel with a back and forth motion. When you get it down as far as it will go, start pulling the ends down. Give the rag an up and down motion and it will catch the ends of the clip and pull it off. Picture milking a cow with the rag. He had each one off in about 5 seconds.

A small reg screwdriver will work nice too. just push the panel in and push one end of the clip and it will pop right off.
The special tool is nice too. if ya loose the clip you can buy a pack at any store with a HELP! section. |
