Another fuel gauge thread

Tired of them yet? Haha. Well thanks to this board, I was able to solve my fuel gauge problem. Instead of adding a resistor, I just bought a new gauge. 90 ohm gauge to go with my 90 ohm s/u. Well its in, and it works......sort of. The needle decides to rest, where ever it pleases when the truck is off. First few times, was at 8 o'clock. After filling the tank it rests at around 4 o'clock when the truck is off. The gauge seems to work fine when its on, other than the needle bouncing around when the fuel sloshes around.

Is this normal that the needle just rests where it wants? And is there any way to slow the reaction time down of the gauge? So when the fuel sloshes around it doesn't send the gauge bouncing?

Thanks for the help and the patience of another fuel gauge thread.

Sounds about right to me.
I've had them stay put, had them drift a little from true reading, and I've had them where when you shut it off, they drift down to 6 O'clock.

Hmmm...so factory gauges aren't 90 ohm? That might explain why my new sending unit uses the last 1/4 tank marks as full and empty, but is accurate...anyone have any knowledge for me?

Re: Another fuel gauge thread

Yeah thats what mine was doing. Empty was empty, and full was about 1/4 tank. There are about 100 threads on here on how to fix it. 2 ways really. Get a gauge with matching resistance. i.e. Old school gauge with old school s/u. Or buy a resistor and mount it to the rear of the gauge. I figured I might as well just replace the gauge, since it was the original, and the needle was faded white.
