Seat

I recently picked up a 1980 Stepside as a DD project truck. I've owned several of the 73-77 trucks and I seem to remember the bench seat folding forward for access. The seat in my 80 doesn't but it does fit all the floor mounts so I assume it is a chevy truck seat. Is it supposed to fold forward or do I maybe have a seat from another style like a quad cab?

Re: Seat

The majority of bench seats in a standard cab truck did/do have the flip forward seat backs in them although there are some very basic models out there that did come with a fixed back so you would have to slide the whole seat forward.
The fixed back seats were more commonly found in the front of suburbans and crew cabs.

Thanks but it wouldn't be worth the cost to ship or gas to pickup. I do want to keep the bench though. I have buckets in my other ride, I really hate them at times.

Re: Seat

actually it was a free option. the dealer had to specify it when they ordered it from the factory and most did some didnt. i think if you find a ratty seatthat flips you could convertyours from one that doesnt flip to one that does

Re: Seat

The bench seats a ARE ALL designed the same, just take the one bolt out of the seat bracket and it will fold like your others, just make sure that you have the backstop that the folding seats had. The bolt holes are all there. I have put seats out of a later 1992 model Suburban in my 84 truck and everything was there--not to mention a better foam base in the seat.

Ya know, this seat has been recovered. I'll bet someone covered up something they shouldn't have. I'll check that out this week.

Thanks!

I have an '80 Custom Deluxe and my seat does NOT fold...are you saying I could remove this bolt you are referring to and have a folding seat??
