Parts Compatibility
Hey all,
I want to convert my 67 GMC 1/2 ton to 4 wheel disc brakes, keeping the stock control arms and ball joints in the front and stock 12 bolt differential in the rear. Is there a way for me to do this with parts available locally, ie. Napa, etc, or do I need to go directly to GMC Pauls and get the kit? Any and all advice welcome!

Oh crap... I forgot... I want to keep the 6 lug pattern as well.

You will have to replace the spindles on the front with 71 or later model so you can mount the caliper. I don't know about the availibility of 6 lug rotors either, but I'm guessing they are off the shelf, but no idea on the year.
For the rear, you need brackets made for the caliper and depending what caliper you use. There are couple of board vendors that sell rear disks kits, I would go that route for the rear as that is what I did. Hope that helps.

Raven, a later model front suspension will fit.the parts for them are cheaper.You can get a kit that uses stock ball joints and tie rod ends.There are several write ups on this.Try a search and look in the FAQ's tto find lots of info.The more you learn about this the better qualified you will be to decide how you want to do it.

I'm in the middle of changing my fronts to 6 lug disk. You will need 71/87 lower ball joints installed in your original controls arms as well as tie rods, or try to find a 71/87 donor front suspension to use like I did. You can use those controls arms. I'm using 84 burb parts. As far as the rotors, I bought the 6 lug rotor/caliper kit from GMCPaul for $239.
http://gmcpauls.com/Brakes&Steering.htm They fit right onto the 71/87 spindles. There wasn't any 6 lug front rotors for 71/87 pickups except 4wd. Can't help you on the rear disks. Don't plan on doing the swap. Too me, disks not needed on the rear.... Here's the picture of the kit from GMCPauls.
