Correct grill
I have a '63 Chevy short step and when I got it several years ago it had a 64-66 grill on it. I've been wanting to put the right year grill on it for awhile and today I did. Thanks to LILRED66 (Tony), I now have the correct grill on the truck. I was going to wait until later on this weekend to put it on but I just couldn't help myself when I got home today. Thanks again Tony and here are some before and after pics because I know you guys love pics.

Re: Correct grill
That "new" grill looks nice on there. I like the look of the 63 aluminum grill, just seems meaner looking than the 64-66 style.

Re: Correct grill
I like it! I wish I had the money to buy that when he had it up for sale. I'd'a been all over it. I'm jealous!
Can you tell me what is involved in taking the grill off? I'd like to paint behind mine. How many bolts, how do you get to 'em, etc. Thanks! |

Re: Correct grill
It's actually pretty easy to remove the grill. There's usually 4 bolts on each side holding the grill on, but whoever put that 64-66 grill on mine only had the 2 outer bolts on each side holding it on, probably because the inner holes didn't quite line up. You can get to 3 of the bolts on each side just by looking under the fenderwells, believe they should be 1/2 in. bolts. If you look at that 3rd pic I posted, the one where the grill is off, you'll see 4 holes on the driver's side, that's where the bolts are at. There's 5 holes in that pic, 2 at the bottom right but I think one of them was drilled to make that 64-66 grill fit, I could be wrong about that 5th hole though.

Re: Correct grill
Glad to see you received the '63 factory anodized aluminum grille assembly and was able to install it on your rig. I was surprised at how nice that grille was when I pulled it off to ship.
With a little elbow grease and a small repair of the passenger side mounting tabs, that my father welded up for me (he is retired airframe and powerplant welder who worked for TWA/American Airlines for 39-1/2 years), that thing was in excellent shape, as is many of the other parts on the '63 Chevy C10 swb fleet it came from. I'm glad you like it and thanks for sharing your pictures. |

Re: Correct grill
I love it! 63 grilles are one of the best. I love the "droopy" eye look they have. Looks awesome...
