Repainting Gauge Lens???

I searched the forum for this but I had no luck. Has anyone ever repainted the letters/numbers on the 67-72 gauge lens? I know the reproductions can be purchased but I want my gauges to read something other than stock. I am mainly concerned with the labeling of the four smaller gauges along the bottom. Will any of the venders or board members “custom paint” (I think it was originally silk screening) one of these lenses.

The only idea I have so far is to print out the font on my computer using a sticker type paper. Use an exacto-knife to cut out the letters, stick the stencil onto the lens and spray it with paint. I have run into problems in my mind with this however. I have a feeling that I wouldn’t be able to match the custom areas with the ones I want to leave stock and it would be WAY to hard to redo the whole thing in this manner. Any ideas???

Good idea! You just reminded me that I know the owner of such a shop! You are right, he can probably take care of it pretty easy. I wonder what type of paint is on it right now? It kinda has a greenish tint, almost like it should glow in the dark.

You know those little shapes that are white in color and painted on the lens? I want them to look different and be in a different order. Quit breathing train fumes!

Re: Repainting Gauge Lens???

I Dont Know What Type Of Paint It Is But If You Have Ever Cleaned Up An Old One You Know It Comes Off Pretty Easy Ill Bet It Isnt Anything Special
First Couple Of Time I Cleaned One Up I Almost Screwed Them Up For Good
Damn Near Rubbed The Paint Completely Off Oops

Sounds like an awful lot of work. Hope it turns out the way you're thinking it will. That being said, I'm gonna agree with Jtrux here.
