Re: Was this a good deal for a Posi Unit and gears?

if it is in as good of shape as he says, yes, it's a good deal. But, and it's a very big But, I would never install one of these without having it rebuilt unless the previous owner can prove when he bought and had the thing rebuilt. Lot's of abuse can go on with these and the last thing you want is to install it and then find out it needs to be rebuilt. Unless you can do the work yourself, installation is way too expensive to just have it redone because you didn't put a good unit in to start with.

I don't think that is an original eaton. The springs look different. Do you know brand? I would just check to make sure there is still good resistance drag on the clutches, and if there is...GO

Kinda looks like an Auburn by looking at the symbol/logo, and the triple spring on one side.

Re: Was this a good deal for a Posi Unit and gears?

I agree, it looks to have been replaced because it doesn't look like mine at all.

This is my word of advise, buy new gears when you install it. I bought a posi rear end and the gears that were in there screamed at highway speed they were so worn. You couldn't tell by looking at them, but you couldn't hear the radio or exhaust it whined so loud. Don't spend the time (or money of some else is doing it) setting up used gears. I did mine, it's not that tough, but very time consuming. $180 bucks with an install kit, cheap insurance from having to do it over.

the problem is as stated above you have to take the word of the seller. I wouldn't buy it unless I new 100% that it didn't need a rebuild. The auction price, labor and parts for a rebuild(assuming you wouldn't do it yourself) would cost you more than a new eaton posi. You can get these new for $365 you know.

Re: Was this a good deal for a Posi Unit and gears?

It is an Auburn unit. here is the part number -Ye5420105, High Performance Series . I priced the Auburn locally and it was $430 and gears were $180 plus the install kit. I can set it up myself and had several conversations with the seller. I think it will be ok and I think I saved a ton of cash (I hope) shipping was $30...
