Question A/C recharge oil and freon?

How many ounce of oil do these trucks w/factory air get? Also, how many lbs of freon. Im putting the R134a freon on it. Thanks!

Don't call it freon, R112 was freon, call it refridgerant, i got b'd at at a parts store for calling it freon, idk why

I just did this last summer and cant for the life of me remember how much it was. I think it was 80% of what the system holds for r12. As far as oil I dont remember. someone will chime in and give you the answer. Good luck.

The factory assy manual gives the specs for oil and r-12, roughedup72 is right about the 80% thing.
The assy manual shows 3.25lb r-12 and 10oz of oil. So that calculates out to 2.6lb of 134. The manual says something about the compressor being shipped with some oil in it, so you may want to add a couple of ounces if your system is all cleaned out.

Pag oil, or ester for it R134 and Mineral oil for R12.

Can't you use the PEG oil and ester with the R12? I thought the only issue was using mineral oil with the R 134a

You can use ester in R12 but I have heard you are not suppose to use Pag with R12. And I have nevery used Pag with R12.

POLYOLESTER (POE) OIL


Definition: A type of compressor oil that is compatible with both R-134a and R-12 refrigerants, as well as residual mineral oil that may still be in the A/C system. POE oil is often used when retrofitting an older R-12 A/C system to R-134a.
Switching an older R-12 system to R-134a does not require a lot of modifications in most instances. Changing the accumulator or receiver-dryer, removing the old compressor oil and replacing the high pressure switch is generally all that is needed.
