glueing weatherstrip

are you supposed to put the glue on just the rubber or on the frame too? the tube says to apply on both sides(rubber?), let dry and apply again. is that what everyone else has done? thanks. slowly but surely, my 72 is getting better.

Re: glueing weatherstrip

When I have done it I apply it to the frame and weather strip so when the two are applied together the glue bonds with itself.

Re: glueing weatherstrip

did you let it dry and re-apply? or just the one application?

Re: glueing weatherstrip

I use the black weatherstripping stuff. You put it on the rubber piece and the metal piece at the same time. Let it dry until it's tacky then apply the weatherstripping to the metal. Only work in sections a couple feet at a time. Less messy and easier to do.

Re: glueing weatherstrip

On difficult parts like the corners it can help to apply two coats but it's not essential, I just did mine and used the glue that the parts catolgue sell for use on their weatherstrip (Loctite black weatherstrip adhesive)but i'm still not happy with the bond. Try one called 3M if your unhappy with how it turns out I have heard it is very good.

Re: glueing weatherstrip

3M's Super Wetherstrip Adhesive is the only way I'd go. It's messy, but it works.

Re: glueing weatherstrip

if 3-m makes it it is the best. i put it on both surfaces and a second coat on just the frame. worked great, and as previosly mentioned work in sections to minimize the mess
