Re: rear axle i.d location

well, the easiest way would be to count the number of lugs on one of the rear wheels. if it's 8, then it's a 3/4 ton rear. if it's 6, then it's a 1/2 ton rear. now if there was any work done, i.e. replaced the axle shafts with 5 lug shafts, it could be anything. also, you could ID the center section by whether it's a Corp 14 bolt or 12 bolt by the cover plate on the differential. could be anything though. Could you post some pics?

Re: rear axle i.d location

A lot of people see 6 lugs, and they will swear up and down it's a 3/4 ton.
If you can post photos, we can tell you exactly what it is.
Only 3 types came in the 67 - 72, coperate 12 bolt and a handfull of Dana rears in 1/2 ton, and then the corperate axle/eaton diff HO52 or dana in 3/4 ton, and then the axle/eaton diff HO72 in one ton trucks.

Re: rear axle i.d location

its a 6 lugger and a 12 bolt. so the label in the glove box tells the truth? it says it has a 307 rear end ratio. is this good or bad for city driving?

oh yeah and how do you post pics on a thread?

Go to this forum and scroll down until you see the threads on posting pictures. There are two or three of them.

I just put a 3.07/8 in the white truck and it drives great.
