but that fan has enough power to keep my engine cool? Would i have to make a new shroud or just pop the new one in there with no shroud?

The setup that I purchased and used on both of my trucks is the SPAL dual 11" fans with their own shrouds. Summit Racing has them listed under the "BeCool" fans in their catalog. I spent some time with the guys from "BeCool" a few years ago and learned how SPAL calculates their airflow and how they compared to other brands. I collaborated this with the people that own the Flex-a-Lite company, also met them on a little cruise trip. The SPAL people do their flowrates in a "DYNAMIC" test and the others seem to do theirs in a "STATIC" format. The dynamic being with a pressure behind the fan (such as you would have under your hood) and the static being tested with just a standard atmospheric pressure behind the fan. My two fans flow 2800 scfm with a backpressure on them and it works real well.

I mounted my fans up close to my radiators, by using aluminum strapping from my local hardware store and the fans stand up to just about anything that I do. The extra room in the engine bay is also a big plus. (the stock fan shroud is tossed). I control them so that only one turns on, unless the temps go high, then the second cycles on to support the first. I have yet to get to the second fan and use it.

Re: MPG. I need some more Brains to help me out.

Here's a link on how to install a late-model jeep fan into your factory shroud. This is for install on a 67-72, but the shroud openings should be similar. The fan itself only runs about $70. In a follow up, one member reported gaining 3mpg with a 250L6! This is defenetly on my to-do list!
