Hello again

About how many hours should I expect for an intake manifold swap along with the labor for a new carb install? I won't be doing it myself; no time. I have the parts already (the shop I am working with doesn't have a problem with that).

I have:

New Edelbrock Performer Intake Manifold
Intake gasket set and new intake bolts
New Edelbrock Performer Carb with vaccuum secondary and electric choke

The stock intake manifold and tired Quadrajet will be replaced with the Edelbrock goodies listed above. If other items are needed like new coolant and some labor involving the distributor are involved, that should be figured in. I'll be supplying any coolant or gaskets.

Also, the tranny is leaking so I am getting the main seal replaced. Again, parts provided.

How much labor time wise?

Do you mean like "flat-rate"? It would be hard to guess. It is not really like a dealership flat-rate type of a thing. You are not swapping an identical item, like you would with a water pump or something. You are talking about at least a little fabrication/adapting. I guess it depends on the mechanic.

Are you asking so you can plan your day accordingly (doing it yourself) or are you taking it to a mechanic?

Flat rate to do the intake gaskets is about 2.5 hours. Additional time to install new parts, modifications and running down "unforseen" extras will add to that. Things like throttle linkage, sender ports & accessory bolt hole differences on a new intake, and lack of vaccum ports can be a pain. But yours should be pretty simple to get done- so I wouldn't accept a huge bill when it's done without details of the extra work they encountered.

Good point about it not being a standard replacement as there are aftermarket parts involved. It sounds like for the intake manifold part and the associated work 3-5 hours wouldn't be unreasonable.

I don't know. It is the one that is more labor intensive if I remember correctly. I haven't got that part yet. Would the labor time be about the same....I was told one took longer than the other.

5 hours for everything, unless the tranny has to be pulled.

That is working at a pretty quick pace, but not setting the world on fire

Just checked; tranny will have to be pulled to replace that seal.

How much more time for that, best guess?

3 extra hours -- if it is a shop equipped with a lift.

If it is just an Okie with a couple of jackstands, a floorjack and a case of Budweiser, i'd count on 2 weeks -- LOL
