new alt and reg
I just instaled a new alternator and regulator to night and i want to know how much volts it should be charging. just the battery reads 12.5 to 13 volts but when i start the truck it reads 15 to 16 volts charging and i want to know if thats to high.

The voltage is too high, it should be about 14 to 14.3. What are you using to measure the voltage? Why did you swap out the regulator and the alternator in the first place?

in all reality, yoiu should consider getting a unit with the internal regulator. There's about eleventy billion threads here showing how ti do it, but the regulator in the later model altenators are simply better, and there's a higher amp rating, and it gives way more power at low RPMS.

you should also make sure you have a good ground from the rad support to the frame rail for proper operation of the regulator

When you check for the reading it should be after it's warmed up. At idle it should read around 12 1/2 to 13 volts. At fast idle around 14. I think it's 2500 RPM'S.

Mine reads 15.25 volts at about 2000 RPMs, always has..
