to keep or not to keep?
I was just wondering, should I keep my 250 or drop something bigger in there? I've heard that 250's can put out decent power, but I'm not looking for towing capability I'm looking for speed. So, should I stick with the 250 and just upgrade what I can? If I did that I'd get Leo Stancucci's book and use it to help me with the build. I just need someone to confirm that 250's can put up some decent numbers if done right.

Several years ago there was a article in Car Craft (IIRC) of a guy who
put a 292 (I know not the same thing but a inline 6 noone the less) in a 67, 68, or 69 Camaro. I am pretty sure it was in the low 11's or high 10's by the time he finished playing w/ it (1/4 mile et's) Not to bad

I have had both,6 and 8 cylinders and i will take an 8 every time. What is the old saying? there is no replacement for displacement!

My dad used to run a 63 Lancer with a turbocharged 225 slant 6. It was faster than his Anglia drag car at the time (late 60's-early 70's). The car made it in several magazines back then.

What's your scope for the truck...? Drag racing/Show n Go/Cruiser....
I personally like the inline 6's because you just don't see a lot of them, and they can be made to put a lot of power. Just my $.02... Good luck with the build!

V8 power will be cheaper, but if it's not an issue build up the 6 to be different.

I had a camaro book that had an article about a 6 cyl turbo camaro that ran 12 something back in the 70's. It would be neat, but like Jtrux said, expensive.

Really a matter of taste. I have many v/8 trucks that are fast and also have a straight six truck that will haul a** too. The six cylinder truck with a 292 will leave a burn mark on the road thats longer than my 454 truck will. Alot of manufacturers are starting to make high performance parts for sixes. Moneywise the v/8 would propably be cheaper though. Personal preferance!

Are you saying it would be cheaper to buy a whole v8 ready to drop in than it would be to soup up the current 6 I have? It seems from what you guys have said it'd be cheaper to drop in a v8 than soup up the i-6. I think having the 6 in there all souped up would be pretty bad ass, but I'm also only 16 and on the worlds lowest budget possible.

Swapping in a V8 would be cheaper in the end IMO and more potent on the street. Start by buying a core from the junk yard, and then save for the rebuild. Start mowing those yards, that's how I paid for the motor in my first truck.

Haha, I have an alternate mode of transportation. I've got my little Saturn SL7, gets me from a to b. I've also got a job, and am about to get a promotion seeing as one of the cooks just put in his two weeks notice. I've got my dad and uncles knowledge (uncles a full time mechanic working on muscle cars and just opened his own shop from home). Are there any cheap upgrades you could suggest for the 6? $300.00 or less.
