Tailgate years/trims
This is somethin ive been wondering about for quite some time. Basically, what tailgate trims/styles were availible on these trucks?
I have seen a ton of 72's with this style But, also on many 69's. Obviously, there is a lot of swapping going on. My question is, what is the correct 72 tailgate? This is mine:

Re: Tailgate years/trims
I'd just about bet money that your truck should have been white from the upper molding to the bottom of the gate. It's also possible that the letters on the gate could have been the same color as the main color of the rest of the truck (blue in your case).

Re: Tailgate years/trims
I also want to know if the letters on my gate were white before the PO painted? I think see ten is right about yours, but I guess it could have also had the black band across the back. Is that the original gate and trim.

Re: Tailgate years/trims
Yeah, with the white deluxe two-tone on the tailgate the letters would be body color. And,if solid paint(one color)the letters would be white with a few exeptions.
The tailgate band came on 69/70 CSTs,Cheyennes, andCheyenneSupers,no lower trim on tailgate. The lower tailgate trim came on 69/70 Customs and 71/72 CustomDeluxes. The tail light/upper tailgate trim came on deluxe two tone, trucks ordered with lower & upper trim mouldings, and CST/Cheyennes/Supers.
