The starter is loose but unable to get it out? Whats in the way?
Often on trucks there is a little bracket that goes from the front of the starter to the block(just below) to support the weight of the heavy starter. You got that and the wires off?

Put the bolts back in it (not tight), and use a screwdriver or small chisel to break the seal between the starter and bracket. And yes I know there is no seal, but time and heat can make one.

LMAO @ MHC & junkyardjohn
Note:
My father had a saying...

If you can’t get it off, one of two things are the matter....
1) You’re not mad enough yet..
2) You need a bigger hammer.

Has this engine (2.8) been replaced with a car engine. If so then the starters are different and you will need to jack up the engine or grind a notch in the bell housing (not recommended) to remove it.
If not then do like junkyardjohn says. Try turning, sliding, wiggling, turning, sliding, wiggling, turning, sliding, wiggling.

From your post it sounds like you’re in a panic. Remain calm.
It will come out with some persistence and patients.

Also, more detail in your post as to what exactly is the problem or interference will help us to give information.

Good luck

Its tight but it will come out. I know I've done 2 of these, one had the above mentioned "car engine transplant. I had to jack up the engine to get it loose..If it was easy...everyone would do it..lol
How did you get it out and in last time??????
We are trying to help but we can't do it for you.
Use your head and work at a while.
If you give up, pay someone to do it.

You dont need to lift the Engine Unless The Engine was replaced with a car engine and the Car starter was still in it.
The starters in the trucks are shorter than the car starters.
Thats why I brought it up
