Leaf Springs Help

I just bought an 83 Chevy C10. It appears that someone has removed a rear leaf spring or two from either side. How many were in there from the factory? I've never done rear leaf springs before. What is the process in removal/reinstallation? Thanks so much for the help.

Re: Leaf Springs Help

There are only 2 in there on each side at the moment...the PO said he has been driving the truck like that ever since he bought it with no problems, but I want to get the correct amount in there as soon as possible.

Re: Leaf Springs Help

However many you had from the factory just depends on how it was equipped from the factory. If you plan on doing any towing or putting anything in your bed, you should probably get a couple more leafs in there. It's pretty straight forward. Drop your axle from the leafs and you can just pull the bolts on either end of the leaf, and it will drop out. There should be a bolt running through the center of all of the leafs holding them all together. If you pull your leaf pack, I always think it's a good idea to replace this bolt with a new grade 8 bolt. If you weren't so far north I could just give ya all my leftover springs that I've pulled.

Re: Leaf Springs Help

I've got a couple kicking around and there's bound to be a few in the local junkyards, so it shouldn't be a problem finding any. I've just never done this before, so I was looking for some advice on how to put em in.
