Guidance Please, Ignition Problems

Howdy Experts, need some help.

I was driving yesterday, approaching an intersection and pulled my foot off the gas. The truck died and wouldn't restart. Got towed to the nearest gas station. Let it sit for about 20 minutes and it turned over and started for about a minute then died and wouldn't restart.

FYI this is a 350 w/HEI.

Based on the fact that it would cool down and start, but not run after heating up, I had the HEI control module tested and it failed, so replaced it. However, it still won't start. Doesn't even sound like it is getting a spark.

Any ideas where to go from here?

Thanks!!

if there is spark take a look at a dirty fuel filter or bad fuel pump. you may have a bad (2nd module in the HEI) or broken wires inside the HEI (too and from the module or coil) ,a coil gone bad on you or a fault in the 12 volt power to the HEI. 463

Check the small wire going to the starter after being stretched and pulled they have a tendancy to touch the manifold or pipe ,short when hot, after cool down they start. Don't ask me how I know.

Re: Guidance Please, Ignition Problems

Ok, so I pulled the distributor cap again to find that the HEI control module wasn't actually plugged in after all. The housing that the module plugs in to was cracked, so it slid in under the connectors rather than between them. However, once I got spark the engine started, but the carb completely flooded out after about a minutes worth of run time. I haven't even begun to start troubleshooting that mess. I do have to say that I'm VERY disappointed in my Holley carburetor. I bought it last year and this will possibly be the second rebuild. The casting job was utter crap and I had to smooth out numerous burrs just to get the float to seat. Of course I didn't find all of this until after the warranty expired.

Flooding that quickly, I'm thinking either the float is stuck, or the power valve. Any other thoughts?

I'd try gently tapping it with a hammer handle to see if that would free up your float(s).
