Are these better than headers?. My dad just removed a set of these to replace with aftermarket headers.

8mag,
do you need the ones with the alternator mount? or have you eliminated you brackets to the exhaust bolts? You can get brand new ones from various supporters of this board, as well as a GMPP dealer. 70c10, Better is a relative term. Do they provide better performance than headers, not usually. Do they perform better than headers for noise reduction, maintenance and longevity....usually. It depends on what your requirements are. I'm willing to bet that 8mag is tired of leaks or burned up starters. Those are generally the strongest opposition to headers. Just my .02 cents. ------------------ '68 C-10 LWB, '98 Z-71 350 w/accessories (Serpentine), Edelbrock Performer, Edelbrock 1405 (600cfm) carb, GM HEI, CompCam Extreme 4x4 roller cam, Thorley Headers, Carter Electric Fuel Pump, Vintage Air, 700r4, 3.73, disc brakes and power steering upgrades. Way too much money and time..But it's a hobby.

I ran into another aftermarket company out of California last weekend. "Truck Shop" www.truckandcarshop.com The prices and quality was excellent, on the stuff I bought, but I haven't mounted anything so we'll see. In their catalog they have 2 1/2" ramhorns for $135 each. I'm not sure if this is a good price, though

I've used the Truck Shop a lot. They have good prices and a good inventory. I bought thier complete set of BB AC brackets and they had them in stock, not sure if there OEM but they do look like them and for me if it works I dont care about Originality. Any way thats me, check em out, I like em and they seem to have EVERYTHING and at fair $$

Check with the various discount GM Performance parts suppliers. http://www.paceparts.com http://www.sdpc2000.com . The least expensive 2 1/2" rams horn is part # 3797901. This manifold will work on both sides. There is a generator mount that needs to be cut off at least the passenger side for firewall clearance. It is very easy to cut off. These are straight down dump manifolds, so they work good on 4X4s, not sure on 2WD trucks. There are no angled dump 2 1/2" rams horns.

You'll never find used 2 1/2" rams horns because they were only on corvettes. They are out their, but why chacne a warped or cracked one. I put two of the drivers side 62-63 manifolds on the Jimmy. I used my band saw to remove the gen mounts, then smoothed it over with a 9" grinder. There is a HUGE size difference when you compare the two. I replaced my Heddmans after the flanges rusted too much to seal. I love them as they seem to make as much power and they seal up awesome and are real quiet under the hood. With the Dynomax Hemi Turbos it sounds awesome at idle and WOT without ever being too loud.

bummer that angle dump versions are not available for the 2WD crowd... I'm running straight dumps on both sides, even tho passenger side would be much better if it was angled... would make it easier to get to the exhaust flange bolts... might hafta go for em anyway, I've lived with it this long, won't be any worse off, plus it'll breathe better...
