lowering and conversion questions

i have a 72 C20. I am wanting to convert it over to 5 lug and drop it with air bags. But have a hidden hitch to be able to tow when needed. Is it best to get a 1/2 ton axle for the rear and convert the front end over ass well. or should i go with the 5 lug conversion spindels and axle shaft conversion in the rear?

Re: lowering and conversion questions

Conversion spindles and a 5-lug 1/2 ton rearend will do it. (71-72,... or a 67-70 6-lug with new 5-lug conversion axles) You won't be able to swap JUST axles into your original housing,... since your 3/4 ton rearend is completely different. Then use all the the normal 1/2 ton bag stuff. Good luck. Post some pics if you get a chance.

Re: lowering and conversion questions

I am doing the same thing sort of, but trying to keep my 8 lug set up on my 1971 3/4 ton. I found some cool rims from ION and MKG and now trying to figure out how to do a 4/6 drop. I can find the rear leaf springs for a 6 inch drop, but wondering if I can use the front coil srpings with a 4 inch drop out of a C10. I have a bagged 1966 tbird so my wife will shoot me if I drop that kind of cash for this truck also.
