Painting my 205
So im gonna be re-installing my 205 hopefully tomorrow, after I get my adaptor back from the machine shop. I was thinking while i got it out, maybe I should paint it up pretty. How have you guys painted yours? Pics?

I've seen it dun 2 ways recently and they both look good. One guy did it in a cast iron color and the other was chevy orange

I'd go with gray or the cast iron color, orange always seems to look dirtier quicker, and cracks and leaks show up real easy on grays.
Edit: They show up well on flat colors, glossy paint hides leaks.

I have 2 with original paint on. Mine are not chevy orange. I was told they are a chrysler red. Not for sure though. Anyone know for sure let me know.

I painted mine with a custom color. It looks like a mixture of engine oil and auto trans fluid. It's really quite unique, I think it is named something like "no-seal brown"
 Seriously though, I would paint it a high temp semi-gloss black, but thats just my $0.02.

So, what color are they original just cast iron like the 4 speed trannys are or are they painted?

I read that the origional color of the t-case was red. IMO as long as it is clean, it doesn't matter what color it is. Later, Mario

Mine looked like it was orange, so I figured it should stay orange. It does stand out because of how they hang down.

We paint our 205's red to match the original color which is a rather dark red.

Although the "correct" color is red,I like them Chevy orange if theat`s the motor color.I`d only paint one red if there was other red,like body or motor,or the truck was a correct restoration.Basically,I like black below the body line,but the vitals up in the frame look cool peaking out a bit of orange.Orange helps me want to keep it clean.

I didn't bother painting my Rockwell before I reinstalled it when I had my 69 torn apart and I'm actually glad I didn't bother.
I did paint my bbc when I had it torn apart and took great care to clean the block very well and used high quality hi-temp engine spray paint (either VHT or Duplicolor) - now a couple years later the paint is already peeling in a number of places on the engine. For all the effort I took in painting it, I'm really disappointed to see it peel.

The one is my Blazer I painted Red to match the engine. The K20 customer truck is painted orange to match its motor.
