Clutch Pedal Binding
I'm driving a 89 K1500, 350TBI 5 speed. The clutch pedal binds intermittently, it just got really noticeable tonight. It bound up a couple times in a row, which it had not been doing, then it would work fine a couple times in a row, then bind again. When it binds, the clutch does not fully disengage, the truck creeps in first, its hard to change gears, etc.
What should I look for, is there a linkage rod or something that commonly goes bad on these, could it be the pedal itself binding in the pivot at the top of the pedal, or what? I don't think it's anything internal in the bellhousing, or the pressure plate, but I guess it could possibly be the release bearing binding, I really hope it's not, as I'm on the road working, and don't have any place to do any kind of repairs that would involve removing the transmission. Really hoping there's something simple that commonly fails on these trucks, and someone can lead me right to it. any suggestions? I haven't been able to even look at the linkage yet, as it's dark and rainy, and I don't have anywhere inside to work on it. Will look at it tomorrow nite after work. Thanks guys! |

Re: Clutch Pedal Binding
Update:
I checked the linkage, pedal, fluid level, and everything I could see, all looked good, except the fluid level in the master clutch cylinder. Added some, did not seem to make a difference. Slave cylinder is leaking some in front. Pedal bind is getting worse, sometimes ir will hardly go in gear, have to force ot, or play with it. Could it be the slave cylinder? The clutch is not slipping, and when the pedal works everything is as it's always been. I could sure use some help with this, gotta get it fixed before it leaves me on the road somewhere. Any ideas guys? |

Re: Clutch Pedal Binding
I would rebuild or replace the Slave cylinder..Evan if it's not the problem it shouldn't be leaking..Who knows you may fix both at once..
Good luck........

Re: Clutch Pedal Binding
My 92' started doing that and ever now and then had a rattle. It finally blew the hyd. line going to the slave. What had happend was a spring had come out of the clutch disk and was binding the pressure plates movment.
