Did you have any problems with headers hitting lower a-frame? And what size headers are you using, i'm looking for some 2" primaries? Also looks like you're using solid mounts?

no im not using solid mounts. heres some pics of the mounts and stands.
im using 2 inch primaries, and yeah i had to bang up my brand new headers for clearance, mainly on drivers side.

That's the same kit i have. I still advise using a chain because of the torq of the big block. What brand of headers are you using? Nice truck by the way.

Thanks ROYO they are Shorties Sanderson's block Huggers & Fit tight around the Block Im pulling them out Maybe I'll post them on the board later for like $40bucks plus shipping Don't know if they are worth anything for someone on a Budget! They do need some welding though where the bolts go theres a crack in every hole I'll post pictures later in the week If anyone is interested.. I've only taken the drivers side off so far, jus too lazy to take the other one off Since I have nothing to replace them with yet!

i never realized putting a BBC in a 2wd was that challengeing. i thought only the 4x4 BBC swaps were tough!

It realy isn't as bad as it looks & sounds but if you want it done right you go the extra mile I had a 71C-10 and had no problem at all with fitting a BBC in it, I guess it's this 72 only deal with the BBC Motor Mount towers Wich No one is reproducing at the moment..

Fellas, this is kind of off track but there seemed to be some confusion with the 72 mounts. The 67 to 71 B.B. mounts will work in a 72, there is no difference in the frame or the mounting holes. The question is about originality. The 72 mounts which I have in my truck are the clam shell type but bolt into the same holes as the saddle type mounts. You can pick up a set of 67-71 B.B. brackets (saddles) and use the actual small block motor mounts just fine in a 72. See the FAQ section, TxFireFighter did a write up on this very thing. The B.B. engine will physically bolt in on small block or I-6 mounts but the exhaust manifolds/ headers will not clear them, they will actually interfere with them and you'll probably have firewall issues with the I-6 mounts. The big block saddles make a dip to clear the exhaust. The V-8 mounts both big block and small block mount in the forward holes while the I-6 mounts are rearward but the big block and small block are not actually in the same combination of holes. When you bolt them in you will see how they fit, you can’t mix it up they only go one way. I have seen some crossmembers missing one of the lower holes needed for the clamshells and have had to drill them but will fit up the older style B.B. mounts just fine.When running a small block drag racing we used to mount the engine on the I-6 mounts as this placed the engine further back for better weight transfer. Just be sure you get the right saddles, there are 3 different ones, I-6, small block, and big block. The 72 only clamshell types are hard to come by, if you aren’t worried about originality forget about them. I have been messing with these trucks since the mid 70’s and have done many big block conversions, it’s easy if you get the right parts. Hope this helps.

You just got the mounts not the frame perches. The 68-71 perches were available from GM and may still be, but not the rubbers (the most expensive part). The 71 down mounts are easier to come by and will work without problem in your 72 the holes are the same. The 72 version is just a different flavor of the same animal, they were done to help avoid problems like those that developed from the 68-70 model trucks and the left front motor mount breakage problem, also the reason that GM went with the cable in 71. Find a complete set of 71 down mounts and move them to the front two holes instead of the rear two holes and you will be good to go, no clearance issues but you will have to buy or build a new driveshaft and your trans mount will have to move forward as well as the shift pivot and linkage. It will all fall into place once the motor mounts are in place and motor is in. This is an easy swap out so don't stress. Good luck finding te parts.

Here you go heres a picture of the Driver side I still havn't pulled out the passenger side.. There are Sanderson StreetRod Headers There is a Marking on them that apears to read BB 4 2/5 @ 1609 What this means I dont know. But this is the best I can do for I only have a camera phone at the moment... As you can see the cracks it has where the Bolts go..
