Needs opinions on my Rear Leaf springs...

My grandfather somehow broke the rear leafs on my 72 c20. He was given some newer 1 ton leafs out of a k30. The problem I am running into now, is the center of the leaf springs is different with the newer leafs. My axle is no longer centered in the wheel well. It is about 1-2" back of center. What are my options to remedy this? Leafs are hard to find, or I am looking in the wrong places.

Comments and help are welcome.

Thanks in advance,
Derek

Re: Needs opinions on my Rear Leaf springs...

Well, I doubt you want the rear end lifted any but www.offroaddesign.com does sell a Zero-rate which is a block that bolts to your leaf pack and it has extra holes that allow you to move the axle forward or back 1".

I've heard of people drilling new center pin holes in leafs but I can only imagine that would take alot of effort.

Any chance you could flip the spring around or would that put the axle too far forward?

I was actually thinking you may have the springs backwards also. You may try and switch sides.

What year was the k30? If it was 73 up it would put the rear back as described. I learned that when I tried to use some (rear end) 76 4x4 springs on my 72 4x4. The springs bolted in but the axle pin was too far back. that was half ton though. dont know if that would be a difference.

Some people want their axles moved back about an 1" so that the wheel looks centered. Also, with bigger wheel/tires moving the axle back will not only look centered but give it less chance to rub the front of the wheel well.

don't know if they're the right ones, but even a place like rockauto.com sells what they list as replacement rear leafs. and several vendors sell them as well. i believe brothers and probably other sites have lowered leafs.

Re: Needs opinions on my Rear Leaf springs...

Thanks for all the input. The springs were out of a 78 I believe. And I have tried switching sides. I guess it is left to buying new ones. I can't imagine what it would take to drill through them.

Thanks again

there's your problem (78 springs)
you could become a subscriber and put a wtb ad on the parts board. Someone in your area may have some used ones to sell.
Or if your a little handy, make your own relocator block like what Yukon was talknig about. You could make it out of 3/4 inch bar stock so it wouldnt give you any lift (besides the 3/4) or as thin as 1/2 inch if you can tap your own threads
