Bed is finally done after 16 months

I finally finished the bed today after 16 months. I did take a break from May til' November though. I worked on it a few hours a week after work. I also worked a lot of weekends. I didn't care for the weekends because I had the bed at work. So their were times when I was at work for 28 or 30+ days in a row.

BLUE GOOSE is the name of the project build thread I started. No real reason for the name other than maybe it would be easy to remember.

Re: Bed is finally done after 16 months

I bought decals from the Truck Shop. I cleared the tailgate then scuffed the clear with 800 grit wet paper. Put the decals on using decal spray which helps you line up the decal before it sticks. I let it sit over nite then sprayed the tailgate with two more coats of clear. It turned out looking great.

Nice color. Looks like the new version of the factory color of my truck. What's the color name, thanks.

Did you get the tailgate to fit properly?

Re: Bed is finally done after 16 months

No I didn't get the gate to fit any better. I mess with it later on when the truck is back in one piece.

It's the factory color. PPG calls it Bahama Blue and the paint code is 507 if I remeber correctly. It looks darker in the pictures than it actually is.

I'm sorry man I was hoping you did! I'm looking for a gate too, I wanted to just put on a straight, rust free gate, but I'll do my best to find a good original.

The truck still looks great

Re: Bed is finally done after 16 months

Yeah I was lucky enough to be able to do the bed at my place of work. We have 2 30ft long paint booths. We sell and fabricate custom emergency and utility vehicles.

It took 16 months to restore the bed for the most part because I'm not a body man or painter. I made a lot of mistakes that I had to fix. Everything except for the insides of the quarters and the floor were painted more than once. I took several months off during last summer also. It is a lot of work for the most part though. A lot of primer and sanding and more sanding. I did most of the work on the weekends.

I had alot of time invested in straightening the metal floor but it was worth the effort.

Check out my Projects and Build thread BLUE GOOSE thanks.
