Need a new pan gasket

Do I need to take off my cross member on my 72 K10 to put a new pan gasket on?

On my 72K5 back when I was stock w/350 I could not get my pan off without A: lifting the engine B: supporting the engine and removing the x-member.
My solution was to drop the pan (all 1") by removing all the bolts, drying the surface between the pan & block & squirting RTV around the top of pan...wait 15min...bolt down
