700r Filler Tube C20 283
I am converting to a 700r from a 3 speed in my 67 C20 and I need to know which transmission fluid filler tube will work without any modifications. I would like to use something oem looking.
Also, what type of TV cable mount will work?? I have a 283 with a 2 barrel. Any ideas or parts would be appreciated. Thanks!!

Re: 700r Filler Tube C20 283
If not mistaken, the fullers are all the same for each tranny. (excluding vans) The hole for the tube is the same distance from the back of the engine regardless of what body it is. So just find a stick and tube off a 700R4 car/truck, and grab it.
As for your TV cable and stuff, you need to get a quality set up, and since the 700 was never hooked to a 2bbl, you can't count on OEM stuff to work properly. I recomend spending the money (and it ain't cheap) at www.bowtieoverdrives.com and getting a kit from them. Not only will they have the right brackets, but they can provide you with the bellcrank needed for the right rate of pull on the cable, which will ensure the correct line pressure. There kit includes a guage and instructions on how to make sure the line pressure is right. If it isn't right, you'll need a new tranny in short order. I'm willing to bet (i've never done it myself) if you were to google 700R4 transmission failure, you'll get eleventy billion matches, and most of them were due to improper TV cable adjustment. *edit* I just googled it... Results 1 - 10 of about 24,800 for 700R4 transmission failure Last edited by Longhorn Man; 04-20-2008 at 10:50 PM. |
