Will 15's still work?
So I did the whole disc brake converion on the 69 and then realized (after I bought new tires) that the old 15's tend to rub on somthing and don't work too well. I was wondering if aftermarket 15's will work with disc brakes. I just want to avoid buying new tires for the ol' beast.

Re: Will 15's still work?
if you went with 6 lug disk brakes, then you'll need to get 6 lug wheels off a 4X4, or spacers, which may be illegal in your area.

Re: Will 15's still work?
what rims do you have now and what rims are you thinking of??
I have 'Vette Rallyes on my conversion, and they just barely fit. It's the wheel cross section that must be taken into account.

Re: Will 15's still work?
Drum brake wheels wont work on disc brake trucks without spacers....they rub on the calipers. You will need spacers or rims for disc brake vehicles

Re: Will 15's still work?
this is the cleanest photo I have of the rims.the PO told me they are from a S-10 blazer??
I wasn't planning on getting my "official" rims until after the truck is painted so i was thinking about getting a pair of the Cragar cheapos (the all white ones) in the mean time.

Re: Will 15's still work?
a couple of the board members have those rims. they are off mid eighties burbs or special edition trucks (i.e. Heavy Half).
those actually should work with disc setups. anyone else thinking the same thing?

Re: Will 15's still work?
Right you are tcb. They should work no problem, and if you polish them, they can look pretty decent-ish.
If they are rubbing, I would imagine it is just a little bit. Personally, i think I'djust take a grinder to the caliper and remove a little metal. Done it a million times before. |

Re: Will 15's still work?
Ok thanks y'all. they do rub just a bit so as to be anoying and not really grind too bad. The only real problem is when i turn all the way to the right or left they pretty much lock up.. will a grinder take care of that mess?

Re: Will 15's still work?
The turning and grinding could be the wheel hitting the LCA due to dropped spindles. I have this problem with my spindles when I converted to discs, now I just don't turn lock to lock.
