speedometer cable install
could someone explain in detail how to install a 1972 speedometer cable. the transmission is a th350. after installing the new cable the speedometer wont work. what more do you do than screw it onto the bullet and back of guage?

That's all you do. It did line up with the gear in trans. and the back of the speedo didn't it.

it had to line up or it would never screwed all the way down. the next question is did the speedo work before. if not the speedo or the gears for the speedo in the tranny tail shaft may be inop

I am getting ready to do this to mine.. Mine wasnt hooked up when I got it so I assume something is messed up.. I guess I will just pray my internals in the tranny are good.

Assumimg he got the right cable. Assumimg he can see the back of the speedo... which most can't. I would check it. Make sure it's tight and pulled all the way up.

the speedo gears in the tail shaft are easy to replace. remove drive line, disconnect speedo cable. remove 4 bolts from tail shaft housing and remove. there is a small clip that holds the drive gear for the speedo to the shaft. press down on the clip and slide it off. the cable gear is just a pull out from the cable housing.
