Will67, go for a small 4brl(390cfm Holley), & for the best "bang " on the headers, go 3/3 split(2 collectors). i did help little bro set up a 232 AMC for his Gremlin.......040 over, balanced, shaved the deck, & head,282 Isky cam, Offey intake/390 Holley, hooker header 3/3 split......backed by a toploader Ford 4spd, & an 8" ford rear! Did that gremlin run like stink?.......hell yes! It sounded real nice too.......im just glad it wasnt my money!......crazyL

HERE'S A START!

If it will help, here is a Clifford intake that has never been bolted on. I will sell it for $125. That should be about half price.

Will67---if you haven't done much custom work, then you probably should stay away from the aftermarket intakes and other parts. You have to make this stuff work. A lot of the engineering has already been done by companies like Clifford and Holley for the 390 carb, but you still have to make it fit. I just thought this might be a savings---IF---you are going to upgrade your engine...WARNING: It is not real easy the first time. It is kind of fun, though.

Will67,
I offered the intake to you first, but I have someone else that wants to buy it, if you don't. Please just let me know what you would like to do.

Once again, get Santucci's book. It will answer all these questions. I would latch onto that intake, but don't mess with the 390. Put on a 500 cfm, either Holley or Edelbrock. I don't know how much headers cost for the 250, you can also look at getting your exhaust manifold split, which gives you dual exhaust. Here's an outfit that does excellent work. http://www.inliners.org/Advertisers/kkk_ad1.html

So, will switching to dual exhaust on a single-manifold engine like a 250 actually do anything for performance, or is it more of a "look" thing?

YES they will make as much of a difference as it will to any other engine. You have to start somewhere. If you can get the long tube headers as they will give you a flatter longer torque curve!!!
