Good things come to those that wait.
I was out working on getting the pool ready for the summer when my neighbor Mr Flowers pulled into my driveway. He owns about 110 acres and has a bunch of horses. Lately my dog Buddy has been getting into trouble and I thought here we go again. He walks up "how you doing" and other small talk and I'm waiting for the bomb to go off. Out behind the old farm house that his grandpa had lived in is a 1967 short fleet that his grandpa bought new. (I showed it to Luv one time I think) I have been trying to buy it for the last 6 years but his uncle that lived in Ohio said no he was going to fix it up someday. Well the uncle told him just go ahead and get rid of the old truck as he probable would not get around to doing anything with it. He asked me if I was still interested in it to which I replied sure. He said it's yours, come and get it when you feel like it. He told me again that the title is lost and I told him I would pay the fees to apply for a lost one and he said he would do it Tuesday when he goes into town. Now this old truck was last plated in 1992 and has been setting for the entire time which hasn't helped it and grandpa had run it into something and bent the bumper and grill. The left bedside and tailgate is also bent. It is a 250 I-6 with a 3 on the tree and I think it has 71000 miles on it. I know pics, pics, pics, well you will have to wait until tomorrow when I go to get it. So for all you guys that have been teasing me about buying everything in sight I didn't buy this one It was give to me.

Re: Good things come to those that wait.
Because the post was running long I left out a little history that I had with this truck. I got back from Viet Nam in Nov. of 67. I was living and working in Michigan at the time and came home to Tennessee in the spring of 68. My father and the grandfather Flowers were friends. We came over to the house to look at some horses and Doss showed dad his new truck. When he raised the hood I made a smart @ssed remark that it would be alright if it had a V-8 in it. Who would have known that all these years later I would be happy to have it without a motor. We got a lot of rain last night so will have to let the ground dry a little before we get the truck. Here's pics from outside the fence. Only time will tell if it's treasure or trash.
If I can catch him home to let me in I will get some close up shots.

Re: Good things come to those that wait.
Congrats on your new truck. Your story about the dog cracked me up. When I was a kid living in Castle Rock CO, I cant count the times I had to go appologize and get our dog across the fence from chasing the neighbors cows. Just a pup,she finally wised up.

Here's my innocent little buddy, Buddy. I won't even start to list all the things I've found in my yard that he has brought home. As for the truck I think it can be saved but not sure it will be done by me. We are working on my wife's 68 and doing a frame off on it. Then I want to build a 72 C/20 camper special for me and it's a frame off too. This one is a ways down the list. But for the price I just couldn't refuse.

Re: Good things come to those that wait.
Buddy looks like a cool dog. Brings back memories of my dog with a face full of porcupine quills, and a split head from the barbed wire fence. Good luck with your projects.

Re: Good things come to those that wait.
Ron... just goes to show, you can't trust those guys in Ohio... they ALL say they are gonna restore it someday.
Sounds pretty cool... a short fleet to boot. And that is pretty funny too, you were raggin on the old man for getting a truck with 1/2 an engine, and now you are thrilled to get the same truck, 41 years later, witht he other 1/2 of the engine missing! |

Re: Good things come to those that wait.
It is complete Andy, they drove it to where it's sitting in 1991 after Mr Doss Flowers died. The plates expired in 1992. I won't waste a lot of time on it but if it's not stuck too bad I'm going to try to make it run. And BTW it has the large rear window. I'll try to get pics tomorrow.

Great score.
And what makes it even better, you know the history of the truck. Congrats to you.
