Re: '67 step-side replacement rear bumper
Well, I think this weekend I'm going to start tearing into my 283. I can't stand seeing it rusting over in the corner of the shop. My truck leaks oil like its going out of style and I know the 305 needs attention. I'll do a tear-down and see what I need to replace. Hopefully, just some rings and bearings and a hone-in' will do.
Got some car shows comming up next month...gotta get her ready! D

Looks great. Great build. Do you have some more interior pictures showing the painted heater controls and everything together? Thanks!

Re: '67 step-side replacement rear bumper
Why, thank you!
Ok, here are the rims. Nothing special but they really do add something to the overall look of the truck. I like 'em! Also I'm posting some pics of the interior and the heater controls. Hope you enjoy! D

Thanks for the pics. The interior looks awesome. Did you cover the metal panels to create that look on the door panels?

Re: '67 step-side replacement rear bumper
Don,
Thanks for the Fix, The Truck sure Does look Nice. You Have done an Outstanding Job with the Color Selection's of Both Interior & Exterior on the Truck, I Do have one Question for You & That is How did you do on the original Budjet that you stated for the Build? It is worth every Penny that you have invested...............

Re: '67 step-side replacement rear bumper

My budget on this truck isn't really a fair one, or at least compared to others here in the build section. The truck was given to me in exchange for a paint job and I have written most of the truck off to advertising, one of the benefits of owning a shop. I suppose though the truck "advertising" did come out of my pocket as the more the shop spends the less I make. ![]() My paint was donated to me from my paint supplier so that cost was a wash as well. ($1000-$1200) I would suppose though I spent around $3000-$3500 for everything you see. (Interior, engine work, transmission, power steering, etc...) I did up an estimate for my insurance company and based on the hours I have spent and the costs involved I think it will level at about 10-12 grand. That of course does not include the "cost" of the truck. I would say that your average person would have about 15 grand in a project like this if he found a good shop that was willing to take it on. That being said, I really doubt I could sell it for that. I might be able to get about $12-$14K for it, if I was lucky. If I were to have replace the fenders, doors... etc with new sheet metal, it might be worth a bit more, but your out-cost would be more. This isn't a project you take on for resale purposes! D

Re: '67 step-side replacement rear bumper
Looks like this weekend will be pretty light so I think I'm gonna start tearing into that 283 and get an idea of what shape it's in. Hopefully I will be able to bolt everything from my 305 onto it like my headers and intake, etc...
I'll post pics tomorrow! Don

Re: '67 step-side replacement rear bumper
Just a thought, You may want to consider using your 305 heads on the 283, Depending on the heads, they could be very similar cc and have better valves and seat for unleaded.
My son (spray-bomb)is currently doing that for his 283. His 305 heads are 58cc with 1.84/1.50 valves. His 283 heads were 60 cc with 1.74/1.50 valves. I think the 283 is the perfect "driver" engine for our old pickups. I am curious to see how yours works with the 700R4. What gears do you have? Keep up the great work. Lee

Re: '67 step-side replacement rear bumper
Hey thanks for the advice and complements! Funny you should say that because just earlier today I ran into a guy at our local feed store and he said exactly the same thing after talking to him about my truck!
![]() I am still amazed at how many people scoff at my putting a 283 in. Everyone keeps telling me to put in a 350. (ick) Everyone does that. I like to be different. I'll keep everyone posted. By the way, it looks like you guys have a pretty awesome setup going on at your place. Love the garage! I'll check to see what gears I'm running because as of now I'm not quite sure... D

I have a 283 in mine and it has plenty of power to do what I need. I have been know to smoke the rear tires on occasion.

Re: '67 step-side replacement rear bumper
Took the dream to the Oakland Show-and-shine today. Lots of nice cars and trucks. Thought I would post a few pics of some of the nicer Chevy's! The last pic is a pic of my alarm system. He will bark to get your attention, show you where I hide the keys are and then ask for a ride!!!
Hope you enjoy! D`

Re: '67 step-side replacement rear bumper
Cool shots. My father-in-law (RIP) had several of those alarms. The last was a real cream-puff. Had a great bark, though. I miss both of 'em.
Now I gotta ask- do you remember the wagon next to the white 71-72? Looks like a Dodge? I'm just curious. I like wagons, too.

Well, my wallet won't allow me to put a rear bumper on it yet. I'm going to get the one through LMC and it's kinda pricy seeing as how I need everything. (Brackets, plate holder, etc...) If I get a rear bumper I will have to rename the thread.... hmmmmm..... D
