Junkyard find
I scored big on a set of doors. I have been looking for over a year for a set of doors. I came across this set at the junkyard in great condition. Which is unheard of in MN. They were on a 1969 GMC camper rig with 39,000 miles. They have the crazy huge mirrors on them and I was thinking I was going to put my large tripod mirrors on the doors instead. I had to hang the doors to see what it would look like and I kind of like them. Help me out on a decision.

Re: Junkyard find
Those do look like nice doors. Those mirrors will cost you a couple MPG's though!

Good score. Nothing else on it you needed? A friend of mine found one with a ton of good stuff on it.

Glad you found some nice doors. That is a pretty rare find that far north. I found one in my local yard but I haven't taken it off yet. It's like a swamp over there. That CG is such a jokester!! He cracks me up sometimes.... LockDoc

Re: Junkyard find
Like the doors but am not personally a fan of the huge mirrors unless you are going to be towing a big camper or something, but everyone has their own likes and dislikes!!

Re: Junkyard find
I like the mirrors.Of course when you have a panel there isn't much of a rear veiw except from the mirrors.

Re: Junkyard find
I thought all the yards had been picked over, but found these a couple weeks back. Too bad they were not 69-72, that would have really made my day. I guess I need to find a 67-68 4x4 for them now.

Re: Junkyard find
Nice find on the doors.
I would take the mirrors off, though. But not for the reasons everybody else gave. If you're not used to driving around with them things hanging waaaaaay out there, there's a good chance you'll "clean them off" when you get too close to something; like a sign post on the right. And that can screw up a door in a big hurry. Don't even think about asking!

Re: Junkyard find
I can't take it anymore. I had to take the big elephant ears off the doors today. I made good progress today with taking the mirrors off, patched the holes, made and mounted a new stainless parking brake cable, welded some holes up in the frame from the PO. Looked like he screwed up measuring for tow hooks. Now to redrill and mount my 71 tow hooks.
I enjoy the fellowship that this board has and the fun everyone has with each other. Thanks for making everyone feel welcome and part of the group.

I like big mirrors but I think those might even be too big for me. I guess I would have too drink a few beers and look at them though.

I like'em. and chrome them too.
In our old trucks, who cares about mileage anyway? Gotta look cool.

Re: Junkyard find
Relax guys. He`s planning on using his below-eye mirrors. To those unfamiliar, the mirrors are factory Senior West Coast mirrors and are your best friend on a large wide truck. They are designed so you can flip that hoop the mirror head is bolted to inward and spin the heads to make them a mirror head narrower.I had a set chromed that were on my`70 CustomCamper/30 and they set the truck off...since they were needed and looked right on what they were on.Alot of bodies made for 1 ton trucks are wider than the cab, since a full 8' was allowed.
These camper rigs are great survivers since most people don`t go out camping in the middle of winter. If anything, they head south to miss the bad weather.
