Re: Project Revival
Sep for the truck started in 1987/88. If you get a waterpump just make sure it is reverse flow or for a serpentine setup. Anything prior to 87 (pickup) won't work. The pump only runs backwards, it still cools the Block first. LT1's cooled the heads first.

Re: Project Revival
if you get the wrong pump, just unbolt the back and swap the impeller.

Re: Project Revival
You can also use a 88-92 Camaro water pump. Doesn't matter if its for tbi or tpi just as long as its a v8. They both had the serpentine system.

Re: Project Revival
Try Coca-Cola for "unsticking" the 327.....yeah, I'm serious.....
And on waterpumps.....I've had very good luck with the high volume pumps from Summit...

Re: Project Revival
For unsticking the motor, I'd try "Kroil", or the CRC knock-off they call "Knock-R-Loose". They work like a champ on most machinery that I work on. Water pump- you might want to check Rockauto.com. They usually have several brands to choose from for most parts and it's hard to beat their prices.

Re: Project Revival
Thanks guys for all the input. I got a call today and it looks like i will be going home this weekend
So i am going to take a really good look at the water pump situation. I dought it but it could be that the bolts holding the impeller cover on have come loose. Unlikely but it is possible. If that is the case then I will have her drivable for the march 16 dead line. I hope it is then all i have to do is the tranny gaskets and rear end fluid which would be sweet. I am going to pull the motor and tranny as planned but i need to get my boat over march break (been sitting there for a few years). On the 327 Well Like i said we tried alot of things and nothing happened so i am just gonna pull it out and drop the pan to see whats going on there. I am hoping to rebuild it some time and reinstall it in the wagon. But i am a broke a$$ college kid so that will be a while. Thanks for all the help I hope some of this snow melts by friday

Re: Project Revival
84. Pumps don't actually flow in the opposite direction. Water moves as it always did, from lower rad hose and into the heads. It rotates in the opposite direction, SO, the impeller inside the pump is cast in the opposite direction of the older "V" belt type pump. PAY ATTENTION NOW, take a look at the pulley on the pump. If it doesen't have grooves in it you have to use a reverse rotation pump. IF it does have grooves you can use a regular pump because rotation is the same as the older ones. I have an 86 WITH a serp belt but pump rotation is the same as the "V" belt older pump. To be absolutely sure, watch pump rotation on your truck and compair it to a "V" belt setup. jim

Re: Project Revival
Well got an update
Got all my parts together from about 2 months ago and since i was home from school I figured now is time to get this thing going again! Here is the parts I got... I know just normal tune up stuff I was really happy to be working on the black truck again. (air filter, Trans filter/ gaslket, water pump, tail shaft seal, rear end gasket, Duplicolor motor paint, ultra black RTV, B and M trick shift fluid, Castrol 80/90 gear oil) Next that old pump came off. I always hate working on cooling system it seems no matter what you do there is always a spill..... yeah with the Serp. belt those gaskets where a PITA to scrape off Taking a break from the scraping I installed the new air filter. I ditched the old 3 inch and the riser with back port that was on my carb. I like the look alot better and seems to run a bit better too

Re: Project Revival
My dog took a break to pass out in the sun. Normally she is helping me but with the coolent and her love of "self walking" I decided it was best to tire her up to the Tahoe
To avoid future rust I hit the brand new Water pump with Duplicolor paint. I hope this hold nice and tight for a good while. I thought of using there high temp primer but figured this would be worth a shot: I am not happy that the NAPA pump has an acessery hole. I used the supplied block off placing ultra black on the threads and gave it a light scuffing so my paint would stick Next it was on to the tranny.........

Re: Project Revival
This is where things got a little hairy... Once i had the pan off I found this gunk waiting for me................. some kind of stop leak??? Any ideas?
Kinda like a gray coop not too gritty tho Got it all back together and filled it up. I had a air pocket on first start up that cause the water to rise out of the rad. I thought my pump was wrong rotation but it later setteeled. She now runs right at 180. I added the B & M trick shift and it goes into gear real smooth but how much did the TH350C take? I put in 4 bottles and i think it is still ow. Belt routing had me confused till a friend of mine sent a diagram

Re: Project Revival
Well she is a runner!!
That is the boat I built back in high school. It will get fixed up this summer there is a long story behind that skiff. I hope to get new seatbelts in soon get the seat brackets sorted out. I will also be showing the install of the speaker brackets I got off Bigblock73 once i get a chance to install them. So that will be it for a while till i get home some time next month.... And I know I gotta get rid of the glass filter and wash and clean her.
