350 > 454 swap, RE: Frame mounts?

I know I had to have a set of bbc mounts in my 69 when I swapped it to a bbc. But now i'm messing with the 73-87's and i'm unsure if i need the frame mounts. I took them out of the parts truck along with all of the other parts I thought I needed. So it boils down to this.... Do I need to use them in a truck thats formerly an sbc truck?

Re: 350 > 454 swap, RE: Frame mounts?

Hi,
Here's what I've found out so far: On a 1978 K20 orginal SB suburban the rubber/metal inserts for the BB will not fit on the frame mounted towers. I've tried ones from NAPA and O'Riley. I'm going back to NAPA with the tower to find out if a SB mount still fits the tower and determine if there is a difference between the fit/location of the actual motor mount bolt. I'll let you know what I find out. Tom

I ran into some issues with mounts. See this thread

Re: 350 > 454 swap, RE: Frame mounts?

Are the frame towers on a 1/2 ton truck...or 3/4 ton truck? I believe the towers are different between 1/2 and 3/4 tons. I have a set of "BB" frame towers, they were different that the stock ones in my 1/2 ton...I am assuming they came from a heavier truck.

FWIW, I went from 350 to 454 on my 73...everything bolted up perfectly using the stock parts on my 73.

Re: 350 > 454 swap, RE: Frame mounts?

3/4T up have different height frames than 1/2T. Burbs have this frame difference from what I have seen.

73-79 (80) SBC and BBC clamshells are identical from my experience. 81-86 there was ONLY 305 clamshells (outside of California), they aren't the same as the previous models and a 454 was never offered. I have put 454's in place of 305's though in 81-87's. The frame stands on 73-87's are the same.

Oh great, So I spent an hour wrestling both of the frame mounts off of the frame and didn't need them.

If you are talking about frame stands for 1/2T to 1/2T, unfortunately yes...
