filter in, tranny dying?

got the new fuel filter in(very hard to get the fuel line off the carb) and that seemed to help with the way its running a lot, but it is still running a little rough.

remember the loud clicking that sounded like it was coming from my dash the other day(mentioned in another thread), well it started doing that again when we were messing around with it today. i had girlfriend tap on the gas lightly while i stuck my head under the truck and i heard loud tapping sounds coming from what sounded like the tranny. it sounded really bad too. it could have been the engine, but i really do not know.

could be a front tranny pump. is it a 700R4?? the 700R4 in my 85 Z made a horrible ticking sound when the front pump started dying out.

Just a thought.

hmm...could still be a trans pump. could be many things I suppose. The only way to really isolate it is to perhaps get under the truck again with it running, and someones foot planted FIRMLY on the brakes. Then you can perhaps move around a bit and try to determine where the loudest point is??? Best of luck.

I had a blown header gasket that made a loud ticking sound. It started as a tick then moved on to a backfire. When the engine was idleing it wasnt very bad but if the RPMs went over 1000 you could hear it.

boys stop flirting for 10 seconds and tell me what i'll need to check the torque converter. i know i'll need to jack the truck up, support it on jack stands, take the inspection cover off, and then what?

oh yeah, should i show angie what open headers sound like?

she kept covering her ears when we went to see the monster trucks

move the convertor and flexplate around and check if all the bolts are there of course and tighten and/or replace them if needed.i know from expierience they can come loose without warning.

I would!

I had a ticking sound that came from my cat convertor. It was a tiny rust hole in the front by the clamp. Was rusty so I poked a 2 inch whole in it, no more ticking noise.

But you don't have cattys.

Flexplate could be cracked, went through 3 of them in a '75 Firebird I used to have. Each time there was 2 or 3 cracks around the crank bolts.Probly worst case senario since you cant really see unlees you pull the tranny.Dont know why it did this (twice on a 350 Pontiac and once on a 400) maybe too much hotroddin.Ticked like crazy.

Just a thought.Good luck

another thing i just thought of even though its kind of a remote possibility-maybe your tranny convertor cover is loose or bent and could be responsible for the noise.probably not but it never hurts to check.
