trap door for air on passenger side
i'm slowly removing stuff i don't need or want in my truck like the rats nest of wiring and i slowly came across this trap door kinda set up on the passenger side firewall. what does it do? is it just a air return for the heater and ac? can i just get rid of it since i no longer have my ac and will be modifying my heat? seems to be a air return on fresh air make up. let me know if i'm wrong and your thoughts on removing it. thanks

Re: trap door for air on passenger side
lmc refers to it only for the ac built trucks so i assume i can remove it since i no longer have ac. in the non ac trucks there is just a filler.

Re: trap door for air on passenger side
On non-A/C trucks there is a manual door...

Re: trap door for air on passenger side
yea thats what lmc showed. my question is it just to circulated the air from the cab to the blower or is that where all the fresh air comes from for the a/c and heater.

Re: trap door for air on passenger side
I wouldn't remove it. My truck didn't have one and when it rained the water would pour into the cab. It turns out that water that falls on the grill in front of the windshield is routed between the front 1/4 panel and the cab....basically it runs down the side of the cab. The housing for the trap door has a big lip on it that prevents water from flowing into the cab. I ended up getting one from the junk yard and using silicone to seal it up.

Re: trap door for air on passenger side
if i do remove it, i'll get fillers welded inside the cab to seal it up and also out at the fire wall
