Dude the 6cyl HEADERS are split and have 2 collectors. So the "2 into 1 thing" makes perfect sense. If you have to have a cat, then get a high flow from magnaflow or others. use what ever muffler you want. I have used DynoMax's welded race muffler on an inliner and LOVED the sound. Me myself,cant stand the sound of glasspacks.reminds me of an old clapped out Ford. Good luck. I always like it whe someone plays with the SIXes.

A buddy of mine built a very nice 235 for his 1967 SWB using many parts from Clifford... Their exhausts were very nice and he had an old Doug Herbert cam that provided lots of bottom end and sounded nearly like a V8...
