Re: 67 GMC swb 4x4

Almost all '67 GMC 4X4 would have come with either a straight 6 (250 or 292) or the V-6 (305). The V-6 is an excellent off road engine, lots of torque at low r.p.m.'s.

Why wouldn't they have a V8?

Re: 67 GMC swb 4x4

Before '68, GMC's were quite a bit different than Chevy trucks. The V-6 was a GMC engine, and that's what the majority of GMC pickups came with. In fact, unless it's Canadian, no V-8 was even offered in GMC pickups from 1960 to mid-'67. In late '67, GMC started offering the 283 and 327 Chevy V-8's, and this was the point when Chevy and GMC pickups started becoming the same except for trim. The V-6 was exclusive to GMC pickups until the last V-6 pickups were built in '69. Chevy sometimes used the GMC V-6's in their larger commercial trucks (70 and 80 series).

Re: 67 GMC swb 4x4

ed2552 it was a very uncommon motor unless someone ordered a cst package with a lot of options. the biggest V8 that could be had in 67 was the 327 and if you find a 67 with one still in it you've had a good score. the 67's in general were more of a work truck than for style so a V8 wan't needed just a torquey lil I6.

Bob B. you beat me to it

Well, you may have to adopt the motto of most of us on the board: "If GM didn't make it, we will."
Seriously, do not discount the sixes. With modern technology, they can be just as powerful as a v-8. On the title, remember, some states do not carry titles for vehicles as old as this, check with your dmv to find out how to apply for one.
