Lift(?) Questions

The guy I bought my new truck from said it was lifted 4" and I am newish to all this lifting/4x4 stuff, while I see the blocks in the back I am curious as to how the front end was done, also what kind of T-case I have? The current Tires are 31x10 on 16.5 rims. While I am at it, I assume 16" rims will fit, though it seems tight (finger width) between the caliper and rim... (It had wide 35" Swamper Boggers on it previously, notice the clean metal on the side of the steering arm... )

(Poor Poor Front Fenders... )

(this explains why I have no Speedometer... )

I was told when i posted the truck on the '67-'72 forums when I got it, that while it had a '67 cab it was sitting on a newer frame, and while looking at the other recent thread about the lift on superchevy's '72 GMC 2500 I noticed that the Spindle arm on my front axle is a lot beefier than the one on his D-44, I assume that mine is also a D-44, any thoughts as to the Difference there?

(The arm pointed out by the arrow... Tow Hooks, sooo hot... Though that Worklight is a little Whiskey. Tango. Foxtrot....)

(vs the one in this pic.)

Re: Lift(?) Questions

The front was done with springs. Factory 4x4 was 2 leaves. I would say yes, the 16" wheels will fit. I have run them on a 82 k20, a 77 k30, and a 79 k30.

Re: Lift(?) Questions

I have a 1972 with a 4" lift and 16" wheels with 315/75r16 (35's), See pic. So I would say yes they should fit. Looks like a cool project.

Re: Lift(?) Questions

Yeah, it should be loads of fun, couldn't pass on it for $1000 with front and rear Detroit Lockers and 4:56 gears. The motor is probably the smoothest running SBC I've ever seen, needs some Valve seals though.

I have a complete donor truck ('71 or so 2wd LWB)for a bed and doors/fenders if I ever want to replace the ones on this one. I intend to use it for hauling and to have some off-road fun, so I don't really know if I want to put really nice panels on it, the donor doors and fenders are more suited to go on my '70 stepside which are starting to rot through in the corners.

Re: Lift(?) Questions

These trucks were available with either 16 or 16.5 wheels. You can run 15s with minimal grinding of the ridge on the caliper.I can`t see too well, but it looks like you have the 4"-6" lift steering arm that is recommended.Your t-ase is a NP205.

Re: Lift(?) Questions

That truck woluld look real tight with a ranchhand flatbed/pipe rack. Nothing like a lifted 4x4 chevy from that year. Nice project dude.
