Tach Wiring

I have bought a tach from Cheyenne Super Man and I have tach wiring question. On the stock wiring there is two wires that come off the positive side of the tach. I understand that on an HEI ignition there is a tach place and a 12v location for the ignition. But the ignition is already plugged into the distributor there. So where does the second wire go? The on the stock wiring there is a ground. It seems that this would go to the coil but in this case does it get grounded to anywhere or can I ground it to the fuse panel. A little advise would be great. Thanks

One to the tach terminal on the dist, the other to a switched ignition source (IGN UNFUSED on the fuse box)

The tach gets its ground through the metal instrument housing so a separate ground wire is not needed.

Green wire is the signal from the dizzy.
Black wire is ground.
White wire is for the light(splice into cluster)
Red wire is for a key-on 12v source.

Okay. I have one brown wire. Ground... I have one red wire with two ends on it. That is what is confusing. Why would the red wire have two ends on it.

Lets try this one more time. I apologize for the cofusion apparently I don't know what I am talking about. This is a 700 rpm tach that CS-M sells. So there is a red wire off of the back of the tach which is marked "+". This wire has two ends on it within an inch of each other. I assume one goes to the dist which is an HEI. The other one must go to a 12V source. But the 12V source on my dist is taken by the ignition wire. i also assume the tach location just interupts or grounds the 12V everytime it spins around therefore getting RPM. Should I splice the 12V ignition wire with the wire from the tach?


Next thing. the ground wire is very long and it has a clip end on it like one of the red wires. I was wondring if this goes to a stock fuse panel to ground it?If so I can ground it to the fuse box I have at the grounding terminal.

Please enlighten me.

the red one has 2 ends on it, so you can hook it up and not lose a space to hook something else up.
Example, look at your fuse box, there's probably already something on the ignition ufused terminal. You unplug what ever that is, plug the tach in there, then what ever was there already, you just plug into the extra plug hanging off the red wire.

This is the same as any tach I've bought.Green wire (or dizzy feed if your color is different) goes to negative side of the coil.

I want to thank the guys that put up with my ignorance. So after re-reading the posts I figured out what you were talking about. So here is what I ended up doing... I plugged the red wire into the power on the fuse box. Duh not the coil. I put the brown wire on the negative of the coil. That is where I was confused. The I ran a ground from the back of the tach to the fuse panel ground block.

So once again thanks for the patience for a brain dead confused person. The thing that confused me the most was I convinced myself the red wire had to go to the dist.
