New Beast.

Just picked up this '67 K20(?) Chevy for a grand. It has a newer, strong running 350 w/ a granny low 4-speed, 4:56 gears and Detroit Lockers front and back, Power Steering and Power Disk front Brakes. I have a line on a '71 Long box with good doors, fenders and a decent bed as that flatbed is fugly. It is a shame it doesn't have the original front clip though. Its lifted 4", the P/O had 16x35x15 mudders on it.

Too bad you are so far away...I have a very nice '67 box that should go on there...for the cheap price of scrap too!

Ironically I am on my way to Lynnwood right now, but I don't think the Box would fit in a Ford Contour...

the cab is 67 but the frame is not, the frame is 69-72 judging by the front spring hangers and the tow hooks.

That thing is going to be SLOW on the highway. My 67 K10 has the same tranny and prolly 4.10 gears, from what i can tell and she only goes mabye 65 tops

i noticed them too... those hooks are worth about $300+ by themselves.... nice deal with either clip...

14 bolt rear too...

Thanks for the kind words. Good to know about the Frame... are you serious about the tow hooks?

Kinda wish I had taken it to Lynnwood with all the storm activity and pass troubles I was lucky to get home tonight. Had to trek over white pass with no snow traction devices in the Contour... Snoquamie and The Gorge were both closed, between that and rush hour traffic it took me 8 hours to go a hair over 300 miles.

Only real issues to deal with besides the bed and Tires! are:

Needs a *real battery, the one in it isn't fit to start a civic (its TINY).

Need to replace about 5-8 tire studs. (hopefully this isn't too tough with the axles it has.)

Exhaust needs tightened at the manifolds; new doughnuts as well.

wipers don't work. (Same with the Temp Gauge.)

Carb needs rebuilt, the guy I bought it from said the Accelerator pump is bad, it stumbles a bit out of the bottom and the throttle acts like it "sticks" at times when coming to a stop; sometimes it idles too fast, sometimes it is normal, and sometimes it is barely idling on the verge of dying. Its an Edelbrock replacement Q-Jet. (I have a smaller (450) AFB type Edelbrock on another truck I could stick on there if need be.)

Minor issues:

has a Pioneer Deck (somebody Hacked the dash ) but no speakers, but it would be unlikely you could hear the radio at much over Idle.

could use Valve seals, but they aren't too terrible, considering the Engine's operating range with the gears (no blow-by that I could see either). When it runs right it runs Smooth.

I had it up to highway speeds when I test drove it (over 50 guessing by the traffic on the 50mph stretch of road.). Besides I don't think I'll be taking it on the Highway too much

my '70 2wd Step has 4:10s as well, when It had the 307 it would hit the wall at about 70mph, but with the 454 (when it was running, that is.) it would do way more than that (as in it is fun watching the Speedometer circle around past zero again.).

Luckily the guy's wife set the price... The guy "Only bought it for the Rims..." they were just chromed steel versions of the typical spoke pickup rim with very bald Super Swamper Boggers.

My green/white 71 K20 has 4.56 gears with locker in front and posi in front. It is the original 350 engine and Turbo 350 trans. It will pull anything but you can't really keep up with fast traffic on the highway. It is really just a toy anyway since I haven't had it in the rain yet. Longest trip it has made is up to Fine69's place a few years ago......

Well, The Battery was definitely toast as it was dated 9/00 (year 2000). Put in a new one I had from a stored vehicle and it runs like a champ, the carb issue seemed to have been the result of a weak return spring on the linkage. Looks like you guys were right about the frame, the Glove box door and tag seem to be from the truck that donated its frame.

While I was playing around in the interior today Installing a Sun Mini-Tach (no speedo cable) I was curious about the pattern of the seat fabric beneath the saddle blanket seat cover, all I can say is Wow... that is certainly a Groovy pattern... very Whiskey. Tango. Foxtrot.


I build some temporary (read; Redneck) sideboards so I could use the flatbed to make a few dump runs. All I can say is it definitely needs some more weight over the back end, with a load on it drives pretty good, but running empty the back end is very, very bouncy and light; tends to lock the rear brakes up extremely easy.
