What years did the factory installed spark plug heat shields in the trucks/blazers/suburbans small block? I heard that only 67-70 had them, and not 71-72. Is this true? And how do you install them? Thanks!

Re: Spark Plug heat shields?
I have never seen a factory installation without them. Plug wire boots don't live long without them.

Re: Spark Plug heat shields?
I don't,, heck I was just thinking how to re-route my plug wires without taking them through the motor mounts and use plug wrapped heat shield just so I can show off my yellow wires, LOL.

Re: Spark Plug heat shields?
They are fairly easy to install. The mounting holes are already there in the heads. They use a 7/16" x 1/2" bolt to attach (if I remember correctly). It is easier to do if the engine is out of the vehicle. If not, it is easier to crawl underneath and install from below. Make sure the ngine is cold when you do this (obviously)

Re: Spark Plug heat shields?
My 69 has em too. I was at a car swap meet last year A guy had 100 brand new ones and wanted $5 a set. I shoulda bought a couple but didn't. He had no idea what they were for.
