wiw Holley Carb

Debating on getting rid of this and go smaller to around 650 or 670 cfm. This is a 750 vacuum sec. dual feed carb with only 150 miles on it. Bought it new last year. This was NOS in the box that was on a shelf in a speed shop that went out of business sometime back.

wiw? Just the carb. no gas lines or linkage. I need those for the other carb.

Re: wiw Holley Carb

750 vac should be a 3310-1 or -2. The -3 & -4 had plastic diaphragm covers I think. Ive had 3310's on the last 4 toys Ive owned. Love them...

This is going to open up the bull pen, but, this is too big for my 383. I have already did the research, and from a lot of different builders & companies like Summit tech, it's too big. With my cam, RPM range, heads & compression, I should be running between 650 & 700 cfm. So, going to try it. The problem is that the motor loads up at idle & doesn't respond properly until over 1500 rpm.

It's not timing, plugs, vacuum leaks, dirty gas, low gas pressure, high gas pressure, ticks on the dog, gas prices too high, the grass won't stop growing, etc. In other words, everything is perfect and life is just f**king great, (except the carb is too big)......

Ticks on the dog??? It's the FLEAS making that carb stumble It's a vacuum secondary so I can't see how it's really too big especially on a 383 but if you are going to swap just to see how another carb performs, the Street Avengers are nice and you know I love Demons and of course Q-jets are great too in my opinion! Since that carb is brand new I'll ask around locally for you to see if anybody is interested.

Hate to keep beating the dead horse here, but lower your float level and lean out your idle mixture. Sounds like that is all that is wrong with it. The leaner you run (within reason) the better your throttle response will be. That carb is one of the best there is.

Thanks Bill......But I tried all that earlier. Just going to try another carb if I can get a wiw on this one.

Re: wiw Holley Carb

The 3310 has always been desirable especially with only 150 miles on it! I saw another Holley on the parts board today for $125 plus shipping and it needs to be rebuilt so $150 would be fair enough. Have you tried craigslist for free advertising? A lot of car guys look there too!

Re: wiw Holley Carb

IMHO, it's not so much too big for a 383 that it won't work; I've run the 3310's on some warm 350s and made it work well.

If it was me...I'd spend the $250 hit you'll take on selling it and invest in a dyno tune...

Re: wiw Holley Carb

Thanks Billla....I'm giving this just one more shot. I call a popular performance shop in the area and made an appointment for them to look at this. Even they said that the carb was a little on the big side, but that they might be able to tune it in. We'll see. If not, this will be for sale.

Re: wiw Holley Carb

Consider that the factory carb for the 1970 LT-1 was the 3310...so I have to think we can get there The solid lifter cam wasn't all that radical, although 11:1 CR was a factor.

A dyno tune is likely the only way to get there, unless the shop has an Innovate and knows how to use it.
