Bags without a compressor???

Anyone running bags w/ just valves to drop when you want to? What do you do about filling the bags (ie. how big of tank do you have to keep with you to do that and what setup do you have?) I have a compressor i could use at home to refill, but am concerned about when i travel to cruise-ins. I can't justify the expense of a compressor right now and am contemplating rear bags with 4.5 drop in front (2.5 spindles w/ 2" springs) Any advice or ideas?

Anyone using the ECE kit? Any cheaper kit that you recommend? DO i have to C-notch if i'm not looking to dump it...just 6" or 7 possibly to have the wheel arch right at the tire. I will ride with the bags inflated a few inches. Recommended pressure? Thanks!

I would wait until you have a compressor. Not that it wouldn't work with out one, but it is really annoying. I ran without one for a few weeks, I hated it. If you decide to do it anyway, look into getting your parts from other places. You can ussually find the stuff much cheaper if you don't buy a "kit".

Any cheap compressor recommendations. I will be hiding so doesn't need to be pretty. Don't care if it's too slow and not planning to show off while driving so function over form here.

Re: Bags without a compressor???

If youre gonna have a tank and valves you really want a compressor. I used to run mine w/ just schrader valves and no tank at all but I wasnt interested in dumping it out while parked.

I have just schraders on each bag right now. Sucks for adjustments but I wasnt ready to put my full air system in yet but wanted it on the ground. Quick and cheap fix for putting it on the ground.

Re: Bags without a compressor???

you can get a york at the junk yard for about $30, but you need to build a bracket for it.

A compressor is something you don't want to skimp on.

I guess i just meant cheap as in not top of the line expensive, not dirt cheap junk. I don't care about fast inflate times and i don't need it to be chrome. Just want one that is reliable, relatively quiet if possible for budget, and on the lower end of the pricing. I've seen several different ones on ebay for cheap and don't know if any are worth it. I am open to suggestions and input. Thanks for all the info so far.

I ran rear bags on my 68 for almost 2yrs w/o a comp or tank. It wasn't an issue but I only adjusted the height when I attached the trailer to tow something.

Once I started using my trailer more frequently, I used a small 2-gal tank w/a Thomas 315 compressor & a dual needle gauge/pnuematic contoller. They got the job done for 5yrs of use. I did upgrade to new stuff during its rebuild (new 3-gal alum tanks x2 & new Thomas 317's x2 'cause I'm 4whl air now) but the old stuff still worked fine.

Building a small, high rpm engine with the perfect bore, stroke and rod ratio is very impressive.
It's like a highly skilled Morrocan sword fighter with a Damascus Steel Scimitar.....

Cubic inches is like Indiana Jones with a cheap pistol.

Re: Bags without a compressor???

I agree with Homi ,a used york would be the route to go,although if you have to replace the clutch it can be a bit pricey

What did you do when you needed to tow something? Air up before you left? I have been searching the site and can't find a good writeup of everything i need to do a successful swap. Can someone please list what i need for
  1. Airbags on all four corners w/ a tank and no compressor (List things i need like air lines, weight of bags (will four 2600's work) and cups/hardware needed
  2. Airbags on all four corners with tank and compressor and all other necessary hardware.

That way i can check the classifieds here and evilbay and piece together a system. I just can't justify the expense of a kit at this time.
