Thanks to help from the board I was able to cut my dash and get my stereo installed. Sounds great! I was thinking I might need an amp, but it's so loud I can't even hear my motor anymore. Doesn't look too bad. There are slight dimples on the sides from where there were indentations for the stock knobs, but they can always be bondoed away. PO cut the doors for two sets of speakers and I wasn't able to put the grills on my 6x9's do to clearance issues. I still need to rattle can the speaker wires at the door jamb. Pretty straight foward job and I'm glad how it turned out.

Looks good! Glad you got it worked out. You could always build some grilles that cover both speakers if you wanted to.

Not a bad job. At least you used a cutoff wheel & high speed not a pair of dikes & a hack saw blade. I have seen some disasters but that looks decent. Congrats.

I think I'm gonna try trimming down the grills for the 6x9's to see if they'll fit. it's just about 3/8" off.

Well I trimmed the grills for the 6x9's and got them mounted. Little problem though, the grills are a plastic frame that goes around the speakers and then a metal mesh that pops into the frame. When I close my doors the mesh part flys out of the frame. I tried bending them to get a little tension but no luck. Anybody ever have this problem? Maybe I should epoxy them in?

A little bit of black RTV will hold them in place

DON'T use super glue... it'll discolor everything plastic and look like crap.

The groove the metal part fits into is pretty shallow so I don't think adhesive of any kind is gonna work. But there are some plastic tabs on the frame, and I think I can use some hollow wall anchors and small bolts through the metal screen.

You can also try loosening the mounting screws SLIGHTLY...not enought to make the speaker move around, but enough to take some tension off. Sometimes they are mounted too tightly, and they will warp slightly, causing the grill mesh to not stay in firmly.

LOL, around here it seems like it. I kept the cut pieces just in case though.
I just didn't like the offerings for aftermarket stock style stereos, pretty expensive for what you get and they're kinda ugly IMHO. I only got $200 in this, and that included the new dremel.

I'm gonna be putting an AC dash in my blazer and before I weld it in i'm gonna do the same. I figure if i'm replacing the dash all together I might as well make it exactly how I want it and give it some tunes.

yep, I just cut the burb's dash today too... got a kick ass stereo in there now instead of the cheesey old POS 8 track player.
