Have A Couple 502 Crate Questions
Hey Guy's,
I just added this truck to my fleet; http://www.cardomain.com/ride/3076239 Is there a way I can identify which build 502 is in this truck (stamped numbers etc.) in the block ? The man that had the engine installed is no longer with us. Also, Is this engine built on the 454 platform ? It's been sitting under cover for six years so I want to replace the water pump/all hoses and a few other parts. Thanks for any guidance.....

Re: Have A Couple 502 Crate Questions
Close to a 502 can be built out of a 454 stroked and bored (reallllly bored out), but the 502 is based on a block cast with a bigger bore than the 454 blocks. I'd guess there should be a casting number on the rear of the block, like the other GM motors, as well as any stampings on the passengers front pad. Let's see the motor (502 will lookexactly like any other BBC, BTW)

Re: Have A Couple 502 Crate Questions
The 502's have a plastic timing cover...the new generation 454's probably do to. If it has a metal cover it is for sure not a 502(they don't make one) or they didn't last year anyways.

Re: Have A Couple 502 Crate Questions
One of the easiest ways to find out if it is a real 502 is there is not a mechanical fuel pump mount on the front passanger side of the block like other BBC's.
A 454 .100over and 4.25stroke is a 506. can be done a company www.SpeedOMotive.com makes them.
