projector headlights problem 98 chevy

I have a Canadian version 98 z71. I mention it is canadian because the low beam headlights stay on with the key turned on, the only way to shut them off when driving is to push the park brake until it clicks once.(maybe that has nothing to do with my problem but i thought i would mention it) In the 98 the low beam is the outside lights, and up to 94 (i think) has the low beam on the inside. Check out the link to the lights i got. The projector side is the outside beams, which came with 80w bulbs(which fit the low beam plug), however the pigtails on the truck are specific to high or low beam, i cant simply switch them around. Or else i would have an 80w low beam and a 51w high beam. Is their a differene in the canadian and american models, did i get the wrong lights or is there a simple fix that i'm just not seeing. Is the projector part suppose to be the low beam or the high beam, any opinions. thanks http://www.wooldridgeproducts.com/mm...Category_Code=

Re: projector headlights problem 98 chevy

The low beams staying on is a feature call Daytime Running Lamps (DRL), there should be a green headlight symbol on the upper left side of the instrument panel to indicate their operation. On my 98 the seem to be slightly dimmer than the low beams. Chevy/GMC has had the low beams on the outside at least since 88 (this goes for GM cars also). The harness for the bulbs are specific to the type of bulb they fit. The high beams (bulb #9005) utilize two small ribs in the plug that will not allow the plug for the low beams (bulb #9006) to fit as the low beam uses one rib. You might have higher wattage low beams, its not the wattage of the bulb that makes it high or low but the direction in which it is aimed. I am not sure about Canada, but the low beams usually have a cover on the end or the buld has black paint on it to eliminate glare to oncoming drivers. My buddy installed some projectors that were not "guarded" or covered and received a ticket because they were not DOT approved (Department of Transportation), the lens will usually have some DOT rating on them. I installed some Anzo Racing head lights in my 98 and they are DOT approved.
