Young New member needing help

So, i haven't ever really done anything like this before so some ignorance is to be exposed, for that i am sorry. but that doesn't mean i'm dumb, i just guess a lot.

so here is the story, in high school i had a 69 c-10 gold and white, someone replaced the 307 3-speed for a 350/turbo 350 - I absolutely loved this truck. it wasn't real clean some rust in the usual places but straight. when I went to college i traded my dad for a 95 escort (mileage reasons), he sold the truck to my brother. about a year later it was sitting nicely in his garage when it burned to the ground - total loss nothing was saved. very sad day 3 - 3-wheelers a brand new Buell, my 69 c-10 and my dads 69 Bel-Air wagon - i will try to get pictures up of both, you probably don't want to see them though.

That was about 3 years ago, since I have graduated college got a decent job working for the devil (wellsfargo). got married bought a house and i needed a truck, almost bought a Jeep Commanche but it sold the day before i went to look at it, that day i was driving home and saw ol' blue. 1968 c-10 - 307 3-speed - very rusty but for $300 can't beat it. took some cleaning and mechanical upgrades but its a good truck not a dent in it but half gone from rust! thats Iowa.



I really wanted to get the truck into decent shape to use as a driver, never restoring a car or my biggest problem i've never welded before, it made it a difficult task. so i have just been driving it, no issues except taillight problems.

about 5 months ago my father in-law bought a bronco and was finally ready to get rid of his 67 3/4 ton 4x4 - i jumped on it he also threw in a 76 for $100 with a good motor.



so i dove in pulled everything good of the 76, got rid of the old rusty box and bought a bunch of crap. here are some pics.






i don't need a show truck or anything i would worry about scratching, so it is getting a coat of red oxide primer the front fender was the test subject. the 350 is going in with some upgrades that haven't been installed yet. i have a nice bench seat with a fold-down armrest, very exciting.

the truck doesnt have alot of rust on it the rockers and cab corners were replaced several years ago, they did a decent job, the cab corners are a little crooked, but all in all its fairly decent. my cab supports worry me but im leaving them for now still fairly solid.

i got the gas tank kit from LMC truck, this is where the questions begin, i had to re-locate the brackets for the overload springs, i cut them and bolted directly to the side of the frame.

i see several others here have done this upgrade, it fits nice under the frame rails but im concerned about the tabs on the tank that flip up, should i bend them over leave them up, cut them off, they look like this:



i cant believe it didn't come with any instructions, called LMC and they said your pretty much on your own.

i worry that these tabs will be holding all the force of the tank against the frame and it looks like it could separate the angle piece from the tank...

for now this is all i will continue to update this thread with updates and pictures of my progress, i have the whole memorial day week off work so i should get a lot done then.

its a hell of a lot cheaper (for what i'm doing) than buying a new truck and i figure that a person put it together, there is no reason why i cant fix it or make it better.

plus it is something to do, boredom now eludes me.
